Production of Boron Nitride –
Boron Nitride Sintered Bodies
Uniaxial Hot Pressing
By this process sintered bodies are obtained that show a pronounced anisotropy. This means that measurements of properties carried out in the direction of pressing will yield different values from those determined across it. Single as well as multiple phase materials can be produced by uniaxial hot pressing. Here are a few examples from the HeBoSint® product range:

Isostatic Hot Pressing
This production method yields isotropic sintered bodies whose properties do not depend on the direction of pressing. Their density is nearly homogeneous. Example: HeBoSint® D.

Pyrolysis
During this process Boron Trichloride is pyrolysed in the presence of Ammonia:

In the course of this reaction a layer of very pure Boron Nitride is formed by chemical vapour deposition (CVD) on a Graphite substrate. Layers of Pyrolytic Boron Nitride (p-BN) are Helium-tight and therefore gas tight.
